Pants the Long and Short of Them
Fashions in pants, trousers, or whatever you want to call them, have changed over time, and often for good reasons, yet not all of the reasons could be called good, depending on your point of view. Fashion can be used to control people and socially engineer them. Woman foot binding is a good example. And pants are no exception. We are all aware of the Hillary Clinton “pants” flap.
In terms of “legged” pants as opposed to the skirts that men have worn throughout history, one can see the value in pants for men who ride horses. Wearing some sort of pants that covers their private parts when astride a horse has obvious advantages, and there is the matter also involved of warmth in cold situations and cooling in hot situations, and last but not least we do know that the confining of the male testicles, and the consequent added warmth, reduces fertility in the male.
Then there are the sexual mores and ceremonial customs grow from pants that often reflect rank and position in a society. Clearly, the study of pants could be substantially expanded if one were led to do so.
Certainly there is more to pants than meets the eye. There is political ideology for example. In the French Revolution of 1789 a great many of the ideas of Western Civilization were challenged and changed by the know it all French. Their bloody reign of terror shocked and permanently divided the world, at least between those who defend the status quo, and those of a wild-eyed and violent disposition who view change for its own sake to be a virtue, much like the Obama Administration.
With these discontented restless types, life is all about “change” as opposed to conserving what we have, regardless of the merits. According to the revolutionary zealots all change, then and now, is good, and everything must, and aught to be, changed. These crazed Parisians set the stage, and created the model, for reigns of terror ever since. Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin and Barack Obama were all designed after the failed model of the French Revolution.
Among the many things they “changed” was to establish politically correct “long pants, the rough work pants of the French worker as the model of what every citizen should wear, and consequently proclaimed the “short pants” of the French upper classes to be totally unsuitable attire.
This politically correct “revolutionary” fashion statement eventually made its way across the Channel to England, and by the mid 1800s “long pants” were the standard in the Western world, which meant that the middle and upper classes were downgraded, pants-wise, to the level of the lowest worker, at least as far as his “pants” were concerned.
Of course long pants were cheaper to make than short pants which required stockings, buckles and such. In wearing these long pants the worker did not have to wear stockings at all, and could wear these simple pants summer and winter alike. So “long pants” were the clothing of Serfs and beasts of burden and represented their point of view.
Now, this is not the whole story of pants by any means. There are also matters of class, sex, the industrial revolution, rights and gender that are involved. The modern age based standardized mass production required vast changes in all these areas, pants included.
Men freed from the slavery of feudalism were then re-enslaved by the machine, in one way and another, a process that is still ongoing, and how better to enslave them physically, mentally and symbolically, than by the shackling of their lower legs with flopping pant legs, which made it more difficult for such men to flee or fight, or even easily copulate. As a matter of fact, if you want to enslave someone it is more effective to shackle their legs than their arms. Leg shackling is more effective than arm shackling and you can get more work out the leg shackled than the arm shackled.
Instead of this being applied just to the workers, as it had been formerly, it was now to be applied to all “free” men. Uniformed trousered legs were to create an army of undifferentiated sexless males without class, rights, or even clear gender. Yes, it is a stretch, but proceeds from the understanding that nothing happens without sufficient cause, and without the motive to profit someone.
Interestingly, the former adult “short pants” were now reserved for “boys” who by definition had none of the adult male characteristics, and thus didn’t need to be bound at the legs the way adult men were. The Church was complicit in a lot of this, (how much is never quite clear,) and increasingly applied the full force of Christianity to make men ashamed of exposing any parts of their bodies at all. It became over the course of the 19th and 20th centuries a sin for a man to go about without a shirt, or with his bare lower legs showing, no matter how hot it was during an un-air-conditioned summer.
Traditionally, in all cultures of the world, women have been forced to “cover-up,” primarily to protect them from rape and various other sexual pressures, and also to discourage their adultery. It was something new in the world to apply the same standard to men to “cover-up” or face censure from the Church and society generally. This prejudice against men being uncovered in any way is still alive and well, and seems to have served certain of the established order well.
We live in a time when men ostensibly are free, while at the same time they are stripped of nearly all their former rights and freedoms, including the right to go bare-chested and wear short pants. Not that some don’t still flaunt these taboos, but such flaunting does not go un-noticed and un-censored by a society determined to de-masculinize all men to protect the power and privilege of some other men. But, where does Lucifer stand in all this? Why, we know he hates all men, and cannot but be pleased that they are busy castrating each other.
We are taught by some interests that real men are not to dance, sing, or wear “immodest” clothing. Remember how David was censured for doing just about exactly that, and then what God thought of the whole matter.
Deuteronomy 22:5 says, “A woman shall not wear that which pertaineth to a man,” and vice versa. That verse clearly states that there is to be a distinct difference between the dress of men and women lest anyone be confused, and by implication that there is to be a proper difference between the dress of various classes as well. Clearly women are to be covered and men uncovered, the exact reverse of what we are being driven to do every day now.
It is enlightening how looking into some of the dark corners of our society reveal things not given much attention beforehand. This matter of short versus long pants came to my attention on noticing the difference between the East and West Coast in these matters, having lived in both places.
The West Coast is the quintessential liberating strain of our culture for a lot of reasons. One of them was the role the Frontier played in the development of our Country.
The idea of “Go West young man” was a liberty seeking movement as much as anything. Daniel Boone kept moving West every two or three years to get away from the confinements of the civilization that kept following him.
Today you can walk the streets year round on the West Coast without a shirt or long pants, in cold or hot weather, and no one notices. Contrast that with the East where I noticed that even on the hottest days of summer men were reluctant to go shirtless in and about DC. I did, but I didn’t see anyone else doing so. These Eastern castrate men were so de-masculinized that they dared not go shirtless.
This set me to thinking about the whole matter of short pants versus long. Right now, when I go to various gyms, I must wear a shirt because of the complaints of the Women Libbers that men aught to cover their “breasts.” And mine don’t even sag.
The more I researched this matter the clearer it all became. Naturally, that font of all evil, France, and her b****** child, begat of the Devil, the French Revolution, would be the origin of the castrating and leveling idea of of the uniform long pants that have shackled us all. Wouldn’t you know it!
