They are the veritable building blocks of life. No children, no life, it is that simple, both from a personal viewpoint and the viewpoint of family, culture, religion, and nation. Any nation that reproduced below replacement is not long for this world, ditto for individuals, families, religions, languages and cultures. Replacement is defined as least 2.2 children per woman average. Reproduction at 1.1 or half of replacement equals statistical extinction in less than 100 years.

But, in this day and age, the question is HOW? How does a young best and brightest couple make the marriage, the money and the time to have all the children they would like WHEN they want them. Waiting till you are in your thirties and forties is not a sensible option, nor is have just one or two or none a sensible option either. The bottom line is we have a problem in this area, but on closer inspection it is not a problem that has not attended having children since time began. Having and raises children has always throughout history been a challenge, which is one of the things that make it truly worthwhile. (more…)
